Gospel according to
Saint Matthew 13:31-33
How to be or become a follower of Jesus Christ in the world and in your situation

« The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard that a man takes and sows in his field ... »

Why couldn't they say, « Who and how many will be believers?» he also removes this fear by urging them to faith through the parable of the mustard and announcing that the gospel proclamation would be prolonged anyway. […] He then adds to this image also that of leaven. […] So don't say to me: « What can the twelve of us do in contact with such a great multitude? ». It is precisely this that makes your strength shine above all, the fact that you mix with the multitude and that you do not run away from it..

It is Jesus himself who sows with us

Just as the yeast ferments the dough when it is with the flour, and not just next to it, but so as to mingle with [...] it likewise, when you are firmly united with those who you fight, then you will win them. And just as the leaven is certainly hidden in the dough, it does not disappear, but little by little it transforms everything according to its condition, so it will be with the Gospel proclamation. […] No one therefore questions the small number [of Christians]; in fact, the power of the gospel proclamation is great, and what was once fermented in turn becomes leaven for the rest. […] If twelve men have made the whole world ferment, think how great is our wickedness, because, despite the fact of being numerous, we cannot lead those who remain on the right path, when we should be enough to countless worlds and be leaven.

He proposed another parable to them, saying: "The kngdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man takes and sows in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds; but, when it has grown, it is larger than vegetables and becomes a tree; so much so that the birds of the sky come to take shelter among its branches ».

The mustard seed MARCO

= (Mt 13: 31-35; LK 13: 18-19) 2: 34-35 30
He also said: «To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or with what parable will we represent it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds that are on the earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows and becomes greater than all vegetables; and makes branches so large that the birds of the sky can shelter in their shade. " 33 With many parables of this kind, he taught them the word, according to what they could understand. 34 He did not speak to them without a parable; but privately to his disciples he explained everything.

Parables of the mustard seed and the leaven

LUKE = (Mt 13: 31-33; MK 4: 30-32)
18 He also said, “What is the kingdom of God like, and what shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed that a man took and threw into his garden; and it grew and became a tree; and the birds of the sky have taken refuge in his branches. "
